Jesus taught the masses and he taught them in a way that each of them could understand. Every person that he came into contact with was different from the other. He used parables to help them apply what he was teaching to their lives so that they could make a personal connection. As an educator it is my job to teach all the students that come through my classroom in a way that they each can understand. It is important to use methods that will allow them to make personal connections. Then they can find an application to each of their lives because each student that I come into contact with is different.
Media and technology are just two more ways that I can reach the students that I teach. Education has come a long way from chalk and slate. Now we have Smart Boards, online Course Management Systems, video conferencing, blogs and YouTube. No matter where I decide to use these in my lessons, as a Christian it is important that I model safe practices and moral use of these resources.
As an elementary school teacher I find that one of the most difficult parts of teaching the modern student is finding a way to keep them engaged in the lesson. Technology is generally interesting to all ages of students so when they are allowed to use the internet or computer to complete an assignment they get excited and are more engaged.
Planning for technology lessons takes more time than the traditional classroom lesson. The time is worth it when the students have gained important skills. Our world, whether it be the business world, education or everyday life, is becoming more and more technology dependent. When teachers take the extra time to include technology education they are giving their students more than just the typical lesson. This gives a great reason to include the use of technology as much as possible. When the students are engaged, they are more likely to take ownership of their learning and thus take more away from a lesson.
