EDUC 630 WebQuest

Introduction:
The Earth is constantly changing due to different process that take place in the different layers of the earth.  Several of those processes we can observe right on the earth’s crust.  Things such as volcanoes, earthquakes and mountains are evidence of our ever-changing planet.
The Task:
For this Webquest, it is your job to identify the types of plate boundaries and analyze how they create landforms and give examples of some of the famous examples.
The Process:
1.                  Before you begin your webquest, review the layers of the earth by clicking the link on your desktop labeled “VIDEO CLIP” http://player.discoveryeducation.com/index.cfm?guidAssetId=B9E69DD9-6C33-4617-944F-C9BCD8DC0AE6  (username alisha.ruble password mhesteacher) and view the video clip “The Earth’s Layers”.  Close the browser window after you have watched the clip.
2.                  Click on the icon labeled “MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY” (http://www.amnh.org/ology/index.php?channel=earth#) and complete follow the steps.
3.                  Once on the website, click the link that says, “Plates on the Move”
4.                  Read the first screen and identify the four types of boundaries.
5.                  Click the button that says, “ Explore How Plates Affect Your World”
6.                  Watch the introduction, then click “Explore” and use the different dots to identify the landforms and some well known examples.  After viewing each dot, click “Return to Map” to continue exploring.
7.                  From the map, click “Plates on the Move” to return to the main screen, then click “Find out more about the power of plates” to check out some more information about the different land formations using the purple tabs.  Using the information answer the following questions:
a.                   What is the name of the super continent? _______________________________
b.                  What is a volcano? _________________________________________________
c.                   At what type of boundary do mountains form? ____________________________
d.                  How do scientists describe the intensity of an earthquake? ___________________
e.                   What hotspot is found in Yellowstone National Park? ______________________
8.                  Once you have completed these steps, close the browser window.
Evaluation:
Now use your information to briefly explain how plate tectonics shape our earth in at least one complete paragraph.  Don’t forget to include each type of plate boundary, the type of landforms they create an example of each landform.  Attach your notes and answers from your webquest to your final write up.
Conclusion:
You can now identify the different plate boundaries that help create the landofrms that are found on our planet.  You can also tell how they create those landforms and identify several examples.
